Faction Name: The Fallen Aquila (Wreck of the battleship The Golden Aquila)

History: In the late 41st millennium, some 20 years after the Black Out War the Rogue Trader battleship The Golden Aquila under the largely successful rogue trader Marcus Walsh was engaged by an Ork fleet in a system near Arkangel.  Completely outnumbered and running the risk of total destruction, he ordered a blind jump out of the system.  Although the ship did manage to lose the Orks, they emerged from the warp too close to the ruined planet and the already damaged engines couldn’t prevent a crash landing.

The battleship came down on the eastern continent at the base of a mountain range.  The ship soft landed and remained largely intact although it did skid along the surface for some 40 kilometers leaving a trail of debris.  The Aquila’s armored prow also dug into the ground leaving the sip approximately 1/6 of the way up buried in the ground.  With only between 4-6% of the crew killed in the crash and his ship mostly intact, Walsh wasted no time in sending out scouting parties.

Tests conducted by the ships techpriests and information collected from the natives by the ship’s guard contingent revealed the nature of the world.  Ambitious as ever and happy Marcus decided he’d found somewhere to retire and began setting up shop.
The pressed-ganged slaves that had once run the ship were put to work cultivating the surrounding land and expanding on the industry and distilleries already on the ship.  The guardsmen were put to work fortifying the marooned ship and their surroundings, going so far as to set up some outposts in the nearby mountains.   Finally the resident techpriests set about turning several cargo bays into repair stations and constructing a large Vox array on top of the ship.  Within a year The Fallen Aquila was open for business and for the first time in 21 years on Arkangel the airwaves were filled with advertisements.

With entire hangers devoted to bars, repair shops for vehicles and lighter equipment, rooms and safety from the planet for rent, and even his own soldiers for mercenary work the wreck became popular fast.  Before long, Marcus had accomplished his plan to form the best bar on the planet.   A more or less neutral place that all factions frequented and lost their money at.  That it also became a haven for raiders and other undesirables was an unintentional but not unwelcome side effect.

Location:  At the base of the Mountain range on the Eastern Continent.
Size:  Building from the wreck of a crashed Emperor-class battleship The Fallen Aquila is 6km long and 1.5km wide.  There is a maze of scaffolding covering the ship and a few small buildings have been set up around it.

Population: 60,000
10,000 Guardsmen
40,000 Slaves
5,000 Techpriests/technomats/servitors
5,000 other specialists/locals

Military:  The Aquila military conducts its self as a professional military
10,000 soldiers (las weapons, flak armor)
300 Tauros Venators
200 salvaged local vehicles

Rogue Trader Marcus Walsh:  Marcus Walsh is a Rogue Trader that came into his warrant of trade after the death of his brother.  The warrant elevated him from an Imperial Navy captain to a position that could match his ambition.  That was some 50 years before he arrived on Arkangel and in that time he has had much success as evident by his possession of an Imperial battleship.  Marcus sees his position on the ruined planet as a sort of retirement.  He is happy where he is and is unlikely to be the aggressor in any war unless seriously provoked.  This does not mean that he doesn’t loan out his soldiers to some of the factions on occasion though and with the right convincing could commit a more substantial force.
For :iconrecklesscharge:'s project Arkangel. I always liked the idea of a bar just out in the middle of a wasteland and this is the 40K version.

I'm wondering, would he have perhaps made roads, cleared old ones or arranged for some kind of easier passage to the Foundry through the mountains or is it still gonna be a long caravan ride around?
